A New Twist on Green Bean Casserole

A savory Italian breadcrumb topping replaces fried onions in this delicious twist on traditional green bean casserole. This side dish may become a new family favorite for Thanksgiving!


  • 1 1/2 lbs. of fresh green beans, blanched

  • 2 large shallots, sliced

  • 1/2 cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil, divided

  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for a little heat!)

How to make it

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Place green beans in 9 x 13 baking dish.

Sauté shallots over medium heat in 1 Tbsp. EVOO for about 2-3 minutes, or until tender.

Pour shallots over beans and toss gently to combine.

Stir breadcrumbs, cheese and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small bowl and drizzle with remaining EVOO. Stir well to combine.

Top beans with breadcrumb mixture and cover with foil.

Bake for 20 minutes.
